CURIOSITY ROVER PLAYS FIRST SONG TRANSMITTED FROM ANOTHER PLANET

This "first" is about as impressive to me as NASA PAO announcing the
wake up songs for shuttle crews... *Meh...

I did read the whole article and saw this is meant as part of a bigger
event to inspire our youth to pursue excellence in STEM programs... *As
an "old fart", I'm unimpressed since this publicity stunt produced
nothing new in the STEM fields.

Jeff

Yeah, I would have much preferred to have heard actual sounds of Mars
from a microphone on the rover.

Yes, all it requires is that little GSM-Bug installed on "Curiosity":

Then everyone could listen to Mars using his own cellphone.

The same goes for audio feedback from our supposedly naked moon,
because with a thin mylar surface and a laser microphone could easily
amplify its natural noise (mostly generated or perturbed by solar
wind) by a good million fold over that of a conventionally sensitive
microphone.
