Yes. But it is expensive, relatively noisy and has few advantages over
modern cooled CCD cameras. Astronomical objects mostly don't change
rapidly with time (cf wildlife photography). But in the early 80's it
was briefly the method of choice for some work (try google on for
example IPCS)..

It is still quite fun to see an intensified faint image in real time.
But not good for your dark adaption since the intensified image is
dazzling.

Yes. I use it stop pikeys doing a Huddersfield on my astro-kit.
