Default Orbital tracking on Main display

This may be a dumb question with a obvious answer but what is the use
of the square braces [ ] on the lines showing past and future orbital tracks
on the
main display at mission control?

I might as will ask the 2nd dumb question what do the numbers - usually 1,2
3 mean ?
on the orbital tracks on he same display ?

The brackets are where the ISS would enter and exit sunlight on those
orbits.

The numbers are daily orbit numbers. There is no sense in tracking
the absolute orbit number since it is in the 10,000's

....Otay, the brackets show where ISS would enter and exit sunlight on
the respective orbital tracks. As for the numbers, IIRC those are
listed as Daily Orbit Numbers, which are relative to the actual number
of days in orbit, which in turn results in a smaller number and keeps
the Big Board clear of any clutter in case we have to let the Russians
in to see it :-)
