Default Newtonian mirror/misc questions

Herm,

Sorry for the delay. I've been too busy to check in here the last few
days.

The 100-inch is a very good mirror but the 60-inch that preceded it on
the mountain is a little better. I've been told (by someone I trust)
that the 100-inch checks out at about 1/4 wave overall (two or three
mirrors; I'm not sure which configuration was tested). I have no other
information on the testing or results, though. Diffraction-limited
performance is routine with AO on good nights.

very neat to see, and a historical piece of astronomical glass. What is the
optical quality of Hooker 100 inch mirror?

FYI, here are some pictures of the 100-inch mirror stripped and awaiting
the final cleaning process before going into the chamber, including
close-ups of the infamous bubbles caused by multiple pours of melted
glass when the 9000-pound plate glass blank was made almost 100 years
ago. A propos of nothing except I think they're neat to see.
