saturns rings are closing as these pictures show http://www,jimsastro.com
,in 2009 the rings will be edge on to us and almost invisible.

The reason for the rings closing is due to the orbital paths of Earth
and Saturn -

It is customary to describe the cause as variable inclination ,as in
that article above,however a more satisfactory approach involves joint
orbits with a common motion around the central Sun where the change in
orientation generates a different view of the other planet.
