Dunno, I would go, need to bring radio, so contact is possible.
It would have to be demonstated the setup was reliable and self-sufficient,
I would have the 24/7 webcam show off, charge them .. send me 100 tomatos
for 1 hour mars TV.

Think it is human nature to explore, yes I would go.

Going to Jonathon's question . . . would I go? If NASA or whoever
would be foolish enough to have me . . . . OH YEAH . . . I would go.

Blue skies all

I'm still in contact with those people, indirectly.

I don't quite understand VSE/ESAS. Well, that's an understatement.

It's quite insane. We don't even have a lunar reconnaissance orbiter
yet, and any hypothetical lunar polar lander is going to have to be
nuclear powered, will probably cost around a billion dollars and will
takes years, possibly a decade the way things are going. We need to
chill out on this whole ESAS thing. On the other hand, we have an
Atlas V that is eminently suited for large unmanned robotic mission,
and a Delta IV medium which is eminently suited for lightweight
manned capsules, with space for another pad and SLC-37. We have
RL-60 engines in the works, SSMEs, Russian space partners, many
international space partners, an basic ISS that is functional,
and get this, we have a space shuttle system that can bring back
two SSMEs or several RL-10s at a time. What is the problem here?

We've got ET technology. We've got hydrogen technology.
We used to have CELSS technology until Griffen killed it.

We can go to Phobos and Deimos right now. We can put a
small modern lightweight capsule in the Delta IV Medium
and start flying the hell out of that thing to the ISS.
We've got ISS tourist lined up, and now we can send
money to the Russians for multiple Soyuz and Progress
flights. We've got and IPD program running for modern
reusable engines, and we got the shuttle to help develop
SSTOs and RLVs, bringing engines back until we can figure
out how to do it comfortably.

I just don't get it. We've got it made. VSE and ESAS
are just ruining everything. Bush and Griffin are nuts.

Just say no to the moon and yes to Phobos and Deimos.

Just say no to SRBs and yes to hydrogen powered SSTOs.

There are the Europeans, Chinese, Indians, Canadians,
the UK, France, Germany, Italy, former Russian states,
the Japanese, Australians, Korea, South American states.
Space can make it work for this planet. It's the only way.

Everybody can help. Ion thrusters from Australia.
Extrasolar Earthlike planets by the millions.
Asteroid rendezvous by the Japanese.
Every little bit helps.

Just say yes to science and no to religious fundamentalism.

I think it would be good to go to Mars, if you were COMPLETLEY
protected.

I would be cool to explore

Would you spend years busting your tail, redo your entire life, for that
precious seat? And why?

For the sheer hell of it.

Today, while we lack the technology to do anything except potter around
for a little while and come home again? No.

In the future, when we have the technology to do it for real, go there
to stay? Yes.
