Default Dr. Ken Croswell speaks about Magnificent Mars in Berkeley

Astronomer and author Ken Croswell will be speaking this Thursday night,
November 6, in Berkeley, California, about the planet Mars. His brand new
book Magnificent Mars is the most beautiful ever published about the red
planet, and his Berkeley talk is free and open to the public. During the
talk, he'll describe the four elements of Mars--Earth, Air, Fire, and
Water--and show most of the images from Magnificent Mars. For details, see
http://KenCroswell.com

Dr. Croswell earned his Ph.D. in astronomy at Harvard University and is the
author of several highly acclaimed astronomy books, including The Alchemy of
the Heavens, Planet Quest, Magnificent Universe, See the Stars, and The
Universe at Midnight.

"Our little neighbor Mars will be the first New World of the century that
has just dawned. Ken Croswell has done a superb job in outlining what is
known, and what is suspected, about the next home of mankind beyond the
Moon."
--Sir Arthur C. Clarke

"A splendid survey of what we know about Mars, valuable both to the beginner
and to the expert. It is skilfully written and beautifully illustrated.
Recommended without hesitation!"
--Sir Patrick Moore

Dr. Croswell has given several talks to our astronomy
club. He does an excellent job. He is generous with his
time taking questions. If you get a chance, I highly recommend
attending one of his lectures.

Went to this talk last night - wife even came. Good talk - mostly
summarized what's known by educated people who have been paying
attention, but seeing the pictures on a big screen was very nice, and
Croswell explained the interesting features well in laymen's terms so
that the whole audience could follow along. From cursory glance inside
the book, he goes somewhat deeper in the text, so it should be
interesting reading.

It's entirely possible I will end up with the book as an Xmus present,
since the wife didn't run screeming from the room when she casually
glanced at the inside cover price. Although I also covet a Mars globe to
go along with my Earth and Lunar globes...
