Default It wasn't what I thought

For quite some time I have been driving by a structure which sits on a hill
approximately 150 feet off the road. The angle from which it presents
itself to traffic, coupled with some tree branches in the line of sight,
made me think it might be something near and dear to all of us here. With
that in mind, I set out this morning, digital camera in hand, to get a
better look. I parked my car on the side of the road and walked down a
long driveway which wound its way below the now mysterious construction.

There is no "hidden" answer on the website. I don't know what it is. If I
had to guess though, I would think it is an old fallout shelter. What do
you think it is?

No water reservoir. It could be some type of water well. . .but that
doesn't explain the solidly locked appearing door.

Looks like a crypt to me.

The object is a prefabed protective cover used aboard
mothballed military ships to protect gun mounts. In some cases, the gun
is removed for storage below deck and in others, left in place, adding a
long cylindrical extension to the top. Many years ago I installed many
of these and, sometimes removed them when a ship was reactivated They're
put together with a WHOLE lot of 3/8th in. cap screws and nuts. There
are a number of them sitting in yards in SE Texas that are used as
storage sheds now. Since they were built to be airtight accounts for the
stout door.
