Default China's Man in Space Returns Safely

First Chinese 'taikonaut' returns to Earth

BEIJING, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- China's first astronaut returned to Earth
Wednesday evening, after completing 14 orbits around the planet and
entering the world's history books.

The BBC reported immediately after the Shenzhou V spacecraft touched
down on the Mongolian grasslands in northern China, Prime Minister Wen
Jiabao spoke with "taikonaut" Yang Liwei, offering his
"congratulations for a return as planned."

Yang, a 38-year-old Army lieutenant, told mission controllers he felt
fine as he re-entered the Earth's atmosphere.

Space experts around the world congratulated China after the late
Tuesday launch. The European Space Agency described it as an
"outstanding achievement", while NASA officials in the United States
praised the smoothness of the launch.

China now becomes the third nation to send a human into space, 40
years after the Soviet Union and the United States.

The BBC said the entire project was a matter of great national
prestige for China, with Yang declaring before the mission: "I will
not disappoint the motherland; I will complete each movement with
total concentration. And I will gain honor for the People's Liberation
Army and for the Chinese nation."

Before then, hopefully, it will light a fire under anyone that leaks
technology.

As payback, for Jethro Tull stealing the seed-press from them in the 18c?
