Sprite and Columbia Picture - Opinions please !!!

Hello,

Seven minutes before the Space Shuttle Columbia disintegrated an amateur
photographer took a photo showing a streak of light hitting it. Here is
the photo:

There were several articles written about the photo and it was included
in the NASA investigation. Can some of you chime in at the Wikipedia
article section about this photo, there seems to be various views on the
subject. The article contains the several citations:
