Is this a phenomenon?
Last night, about 9.20 BST, i noticed another 'sun' setting. I believe it
was a reflection from the sun which had set below the horizon 20 minutes before. Is there a name for this please? Images he http://mysite.freeserve.com/nebula1/sun_reflections.htm TIA Martin A -- Remove star to reply |

Images he http://mysite.freeserve.com/nebula1/sun_reflections.htm I'm no expert on these matters and I'm sure someone will correct me but there is an effect where you can get a Sun pillar after sunset. I would guess that your second sun is a similar effect caused by having only the top portion of the pillar visible. There's a Sun pillar photo on my website - www.pbl33.co.uk, click on the Mercury panel in the main window - the pillar is at the bottom of the page. Les Cowley's excellent site will undoubtably have more meaningful information for you... http://www.sundog.clara.co.uk/atoptics/phenom.htm -- Pete Lawrence http://www.pbl33.co.uk Most recent images http://www.pbl33.fast24.co.uk/recent_images.html |

I thought it was spectacular visually but not quite so good in a photo. Another first for me. I enjoy your site, you have some excellent images. Regards Martin A |

I was trying to capture the ISS through the scope. However, things didn't quite work out as planned ;-) Iridium flare has been added to my recent images list (url in my sig.). -- Pete Lawrence http://www.pbl33.co.uk Most recent images http://www.pbl33.fast24.co.uk/recent_images.html |
