Venus occultation May 21st part 1
Ok - I'll admit that this was lucky ;-)
Skies cleared about 2 minutes before this happened. Had to non-GOTO locate Venus and guess the exposure. Can just see the Moon's crescent. http://www.pbl33.fast24.co.uk/occultation_001.jpg -- Pete Lawrence http://www.pbl33.co.uk Most recent images http://www.pbl33.fast24.co.uk/recent_images.html |

Without printing out the pic and measuring, it does look as though Venus is in front of the Moon -- Martin Frey http://www.hadastro.org.uk N 51 02 E 0 47 |

I have just checked my camera's clock by photographing the display of an atomic clock server. Image EXIF time appears to be 33s ahead of the actual time. The image was taken with an EXIF recorded time of 12h06m33s (BST) so the time recorded on the image (which doesn't show seconds at the moment) is accurate - 11h06m00s UT. -- Pete Lawrence http://www.pbl33.co.uk Most recent images http://www.pbl33.fast24.co.uk/recent_images.html |

Earlier this morning I tried to find Venus on my program (Guide) but it only
came up with the Moon. After a few minutes checking, I realised we had an occultation. I ran time forwards on the program to identify emergence - in about an hour or less. Strange that I have not seen this listed in advance. I could have watched the start earlier on - but now it is cloudy. Glad to see you got it. I have to believe it is luck for my own sanity :-)
Trouble is that makes Pete one of the luckiest guys alive as he is always pulling off shots like this. Hmm. Maybe he's not too bad at this after all ... (I was going to say that I thought that "venus" in the second shot was just an internal reflection from the crack in his objective, but that would be a mean thing to say about such a great shot !) Well done Pete, maybe one day I'll get a shot like that ...
