A much larger airburst noted at Tunguska June 30 1908 was estimated to have yielded 10-15 MT. No hole of any sort left in the ground. Klazmon. |

Although investigations on the ground didn't take place for several years,
the trees showed a classic "air burst" fingerprint. i.e. knocked flat all around, pointing away from the blast, but in the centre they were damaged, but still standing vertically. No "crater" or signs of significant ground impacts were ever found. The pattern of flatterned trees had a rough butterfly shape caused by the shaping of the blast wave due to the trajectory of the object as it exploded. I seem to remember a very comprhensive TV documentary about the Tunguska event many years aog? Maybe it was the BBC's "Horizon" back in the days when it was a quality programme? Very best wishes and clear, dark skies. -- Paul B, York, UK.
