(Range of about 1500 SM, NRE, or so. The Redstone was a MRBM (Medium Range Ballistic Missile) with a best range of about 200 SM. It was nominally deployed from unprepared forward locations (for small values of unprepared), and was nominally mobile (For valies of mobile consisting of about 20 trucks, and the missile being assembled on-site begore fuelling) It carved out the niche that the Pershing later fit into. For the first Western IRBM, Thor's a fair bet, with Jupiter right behind. As for Soviet stuff, I'm not to hip to the timelines on their smaller ballistic missiles (SS-4 and SS-5, the Cuban Missile Crisis birds). Pat probably knows. -- Pete Stickney Java Man knew nothing about coffee. |
