DEADLINES APPROACH FOR NASA RETURN TO FLIGHT MEDIA ACCREDITATION

U.S. and foreign national news media planning to cover NASA's Space
Shuttle Return to Flight Mission of Space Shuttle Discovery, designated
STS-114, need to apply for credentials by set deadlines. To obtain
accreditation, media representatives must work for legitimate, verifiable
news-gathering organizations.

Depending on events and coverage plans, media may need to submit
accreditation requests at multiple NASA facilities. News media are advised
to follow procedures closely.

NASA'S KENNEDY SPACE CENTER
News media who want credentials for Discovery's launch and landing
activities at the Kennedy Space Center (KSC), Fla., need to submit requests
via the online accreditation Internet site:
https://media.ksc.nasa.gov

KSC credentials will be honored for the entire period from Terminal
Countdown Demonstration Test in late April through launch, mission and
landing. KSC credentials will also be honored during the mission at NASA's
Johnson Space Center, Houston.

Deadlines for journalists to submit accreditation requests for credentials
at KSC a

- April 10 for foreign national journalists
- April 15 for U.S. journalists

Once accreditation is approved, media will receive confirmation via e-mail
within 30 days with instructions on where badges can be picked up. For
specific questions regarding accreditation, contact Kandy Warren or Mandi
Falconer at 321/867-2468.

NASA'S JOHNSON SPACE CENTER
Media who want to cover the Space Shuttle mission from the Johnson Space
Center (JSC), Houston, can either present their KSC launch/landing
credentials or obtain JSC credentials by calling the center's newsroom at
281/483-5111. Media planning only to cover the mission from JSC and not
attend the launch or landing at KSC should direct their accreditation
request to JSC.

The deadlines for submitting accreditation requests for credentials at JSC
a

- April 27 for representatives of non-U.S. media, regardless of their
citizenship
- May 6 for U.S. media who are U.S. citizens

If media will be covering the mission from JSC and will use credentials
issued at KSC, they still should contact the JSC newsroom at 281/483-5111 by
May 6 to arrange workspace, phone lines and other logistics.

JSC is also responsible for credentialing media in the event of a Space
Shuttle landing at White Sands Space Harbor, N.M. In the event a landing is
imminent at White Sands, credentials will be arranged at that time.

NASA'S DRYDEN FLIGHT RESEARCH CENTER
The Space Shuttle could land at its backup landing site at the Dryden Flight
Research Center at Edwards Air Force Base, Calif. Notice for a landing at
Dryden could be short. Media organizations should consider accrediting Los
Angeles-based reporters or news crews who could quickly travel to Dryden.

Media representatives must submit requests for accreditation to the Dryden
Public Affairs Office by the following deadlines:

- April 13 for foreign national journalists
- May 18 for U.S. journalists

Journalists should fax requests for accreditation on their company
letterhead to
661/276-3566. E-mail requests to are
acceptable for journalists who have been on-site at Dryden within the past
year. All requests must include the requestor's phone number and e-mail
address for follow-up contact.

Foreign nationals, including permanent resident aliens, must provide: full
name, date of birth, place of birth (city, state/province, and country),
media organization, citizenship, visa or passport number and expiration
date, and alien registration number. If a resident alien, you must provide a
driver's license number and state/province of issue and the last six digits
of their U.S. Social Security number, if any. No personnel substitutions are
allowed. Requesters must submit full information for any potential
alternates in the original request.

U.S. citizens must furnish: full name, date of birth, place of birth, media
organization, last six digits of Social Security number and driver's license
number, including the state of issue.

In the event of a landing at Dryden, limited facilities will be available to
accredited media only. For more information, call the Dryden Public Affairs
Office at 661/276-3449.
