"Only the Shadow Knows"
An anomalous marking (just below the level of the standard
black ID band on the nose of the shuttle's left booster) was visible on the first frame (and subsequent frames) from the E207 film strip released by Bill Graham, the Acting NASA Administrator, on February 1, 1986. Look just above the forward part of the ET, in the lower-center image at this link: http://history.nasa.gov/rogersrep/v1p26.htm Along with the black ID band, the significance of this new marking to proving the fireball crossing is a subject treated by my book (see below). Whether this new, pre-explosion marking is what Myron Papadakis referred to in 1989 (and more recently) as a "shadow" may well be something which "only the Shadow knows." *I* haven't called it a shadow. -- John Thomas Maxson, Retired Engineer (Aerospace) Author, The Betrayal of Mission 51-L (www.mission51l.com) |
