It would be great to see a permanent base on the moon in my life time.
Though to be honest it seemed to be getting less and less likely in recent
years. What with budget cuts and lack of enthusiasm in US political circles.

Surely they will be starting from scratch. Perhaps even the Apollo
technology would be more relevant than the space shuttle is. I get the
feeling that the space shuttle years have been something of a waste,
certainly in terms of expense if not in terms of missed opportunity.

They could sell the present shuttles to Branson and get on immediately with
a better re-usable vehicle.

Strike while the iron is hot.

Do you think NASA will have to pay ground rent to someone who has the bought
the plot they want to build the base on, or have they reserved their own?

Anyone who's bought land on the Moon can sue the US State Dept for
eviction...if they have proof of purchase. I have my eye on that crater
there where they plan on building. Jus' need the readies to make a bid
before 2020 ;-)

This sorta news is very welcoming and the location choice, at the pole,
I think would be a good one. After all the many debates and discussions
I've had over the years:-

The international participation sounds good too. Slowly, but surely, we
make strides toward the vision of a Global Space Agency.
