Default SKY vs Astronomy

If you could only subscribe to one, which would it be and why? Sky &
Telescope or Astronomy. I'm college educated, if that means anything. Thank
you.

Although both are decent magazines, Sky and Telescope seems to have a somewhat
better editorial staff. The S&T articles are a little more in-depth and
technical than are often found in Astronomy, which might make it at times a
bit more challenging a read for the rank beginner. I have also found fewer
mistakes in it than in Astronomy, which has (at least in the past) had a few
real zingers which often made me wonder why I subscribed to it! I dropped
Astronomy a few years ago, but when I pick one up to look at on the news
stands, I am not really all that tempted to re-subscribe. I have taken Sky
and Tel for over 32 years, and I will probably continue to take it for many
years to come. Clear skies to you.

Used to read them both but as a UK citizen I gave my vote to 'Astronomy Now'
as we naturally get UK oriented articles and oddly enough quite a few from
'Down under' (Oz)

I never heard of "Astronomy Now." Is it a UK publication?

My preference is for Astronomy, though I buy both each month.

Astronomy seems to be a little easier to get into; the articles aren't quite
as technically challenging as S&Ts, but they don't treat the reader like an
idiot either.

Astronomy Now is a Brit pub, no where near the quality as S&T or Astronomy.
S&T is probably the best for an obsevational astronomer or a serious
amateur. Astronomy has its moments. I take both.

Yes.
I take S&T, and Astronomy Now. S&T, gives slightly more 'science', while
Astronomy Now, gives all the UK adverts missing from S&T, and some quite
nice articles too. I'd rate it as matching 'Astronomy', which I have
taken in the past, and recently, it seems to have become a little better,
and now surpasses Astronomy at times. The style is quite good, and for
people in the UK, as a single 'compromise' magazine, must be a very
strong contender.
I'd rate S&T as the 'best' overall.

Best Wishes

I am not subscribed to S&T or Astronomy, I buy them regularly though. for
example: the jan 2004 issue of Astronomy is an excellent issue, with many
interesing articles, I tend to read every article and in my opinion both
mags are excellent. Which one I buy depends on the contents of that issue. I
agree with others in this thread, that S&T is slightly more technical. The
problem with both mags is of course that all ads in the mag mention prizes
of scopes that are not relevant to the prizes in my country (the
netherlands), dutch prizes are about twice as much as US prizes :-(

they're both fine. i subscribe to both and there is a fair amount of
overlap.

i agree with the others. S&T is a bit more technical, Astronomy is a
little more "popular astronomy".

i hardly scratch the resource nature of either.

maybe the only distinction for the non-discerning reader is
subscription price...
