Default U.S. Adapts Australian Scramjet Launch Idea :-)

"ATK, DARPA and ONR Achieve First-Ever Flight Test of a Scramjet
Powered by Liquid Hydrocarbon Fuel"

The launched was performed by a Terrier MK70 Orion 5A from
Wallops on December 10.

Australia's HYSHOT program also used Terrier Orion three
years ago, so it would seem that the U.S. has finally adapted
Australia's good sense method to do these tests with existing
sounding rockets. NASA wasted time and money developing
a custom launcher for X-43A which didn't fly successfully until
2004.

The U.S. now only trails Australia by three years in this field!

Last I checked, the US had reached Mach 9.8. What speed has Australia
reached?

Oh, and btw:
1967 Jan 11 - Launch Site: Vandenberg . Launch Complex: 4300. Launch
Pad: 4300C. Launch Vehicle: Blue Scout Junior. Model: Castor.
Marquardt Scramjet Technology mission Nation: USA. Class: Technology.
Type: Scramjet. Agency: USAF AFSC. Apogee: 54 km. References: 5 , 916 .

Looks like Australia is still 34 years behind in the field!!!! It is
good to see they started where the US did so long ago, using existing
sounding rockets....

No joy on that 1967 flight. I've seen references to that
particular flight, which was the only experiment with
Marquardt scramjet research hardware, that called it an
"aborted attempt".

Moot point anyway, since the Russians reportedly beat
everyone to the scramjet punch.

Wasn't HYSHOT solid fueled? Or was that the earlier DARPA scramjet?
