Default Is Bush waiting for X-Prize before deciding NASA's future?

I was thinking more like it would be easier to dump the problem by pointing
to
a private industry success story, and then cancelling the whole lot (NASA
manned flight) and saying that the American way to do things is to let
private
industry pick it up (if it is worth doing).

Really?

it would be easier to dump the problem by pointing
to
a private industry success story, and then cancelling the whole lot (Social
Security department, Medicare, Medicade, the Highway department, the Energy
Department) and saying that the American way to do things is to let
private
industry pick it up (if it is worth doing).

All the above agencies can be done by private industry, so why not just cancel
them? Any broker can offer IRA accounts, so if the individual is frugal and
invests well, he doesn't need social security, so lets get rid of the Social
Security department. Of course if he doesn't, well Republicans aren't supposed
to think of such things, their a party of talented successful people who don't
need such things. Medicare ditto, Medicade same. The Department of Highways and
Transportation? Don't see any reason why private industry can't buy up the
land, build and maintain their own highways and make them tollways, that
includes every local street as well. Each street would be owned by developers,
homeowner's associations and so forth. At every intersection, there would be
security guards to check your ID and see if you have permission to use these
roads or perhaps charge a fee for using them.

What applies to NASA also applies to everything else. Of course we all know
that Boeing will eventually build spaceships and the airlines are just eager to
get their hands on them so they can sell you tickets to the Moon when they get
around to it. Don't we?

Though it is not widely known, Social Security can never be
privatized.

(1) It is not "insurance". Congress admitted that there are no
property rights to it. They can legislate whatever the payout is and
whatever the tax is. In fact, the Congressional Research Service calls
entitlements : GIFTS!
(2) It is 100% voluntary - no law compels participation nor punishes
those who do not participate.
(3) It was the means to circumvent constitutional limitations by
making all participants into paupers (accepting charity from the
public treasury) - a status crime. [See Art IV of the Articles of
Confederation]
(4) The "Trust Fund" is composed of I.O.U.s that can only be redeemed
by higher taxes.
(5) Participation in SocSec changes legal status so that the
government has more power over the people.
(6) Without the "consent" of Social Security, 98% of the abuses by
Federal government officials would be illegal.

Therefore, it would not be in the government's interest (& survival)
to ever repeal or privatize Social Security.

TANSTAAFL - There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch.
