Default Boris Chertok 1912-2011

Mr. Chertok died a week ago Wednesday. Sorry just getting this posted now.

Events such as these remind me constantly that the old pioneers are leaving us
and gives me a renewed sense of urgency as to why we need to push ahead in space.

Maybe they can send his ashes into space. Not the same thing as getting
into space alive, but about as good as we can do for him now.

Which is a bit of a sad commentary right there.

Your comment reminded me a bit about that wealthy gazillionarie that backed
the 'starship' project in Carl Sagan's book Contact, who ended up living out
his last days on MIR in order to prolong his life.

Hmm. Then again, how do we *know* Russia de-orbited MIR? ;-)
