Well, Cypherpunk's cross-posting has now attracted a fair number of
antagonists to sci.astro, so it's time to reduce the clutter in the
newsgroup and combine responses to all of them in a single digest.

First a tally commencing today. Note that the prefix numbers used
to identify each separate posting below include those appearing in
other newsgroups before today. For example, Kohl has been disrupting
rec.music.classical to the tune of over 1900 postings since June 10,
and now, unfortunately, he's started posting here. He likes to insert
bits of classical music discussion into his responses so that he can
claim that the item is on-topic, but if you look at the thread history,
they're mostly non sequitur responses. So, the tally below includes
antagonistic, off-topic, and non sequitur responses.

Anthony Mandic writes:

5 I don't know.

Irrelevant, given that I didn't ask you, Mandic.

6 Common sense, of course.

On what basis do you call your sense "common", Mandic? Certainly it's
not common among professional astronomers, who know more about the
escape velocity of Pluto than you do.

6 Really, Tholen, what kind of planet is so small you can
6 just jump right off of it into space? Huh?

1991 VG, for example.

6 None. That's the answer...none.

Odd that I was able to give you an answer, Mandic.

6 Pluto only has a diameter of around 1440 miles at its equator.
6 The Earth is around 25,500 miles in diameter.

Wrong again, Mandic.

6 You're a number cruncher...what's the Earth gravity equivalent
6 of Pluto and what would happen if an unencumbered person took
6 a huge jump upwards at Charon?

Why are you asking me, given that you've already stated your own
(erroneous) answer, Mandic?

6 Can you say, "Lost In Space?" I knew you could.

Why would I want to say that, Mandic?

6 Hey, if you're too lazy, assign it to a student.

Obviously you don't know what you're talking about, Mandic.

6 I don't know, so don't bother asking me again.

Then why are you posting them to an astronomy newsgroup, Mandic?

7 Oh, wait, I think I confused diameter with circumference.

That's not all you confused, Mandic.

7 [ pulls out slide rule, slide this way, that way, squint ]

7 Oh, it's just barely too big to jump off of.

Define "barely", Mandic.

7 But the Internet did say Pluto and Charon were a couple
7 of moons that got detached from Neptune or somewhere.

"The Internet" also said that the Earth would suffer a catastrophe
during a pole shift last May caused by the impending passage of a
"Planet X", Mandic. Some people are just so gullible.

8 Newsfroups?

8 Isn't that a Sybase reserved word?

What does that have to do with astronomy, Mandic?

9 A better Kook name than "thloops?"

What does your invective have to do with astronomy, Mandic?

10 Me three!!!

10 I put very small spots on his telescope!!!

10 Any day now he's going to be claiming he's spotted new
10 planets or moons or loose moons like Pluto and Charon.

On what basis do you call Pluto and Charon "loose moons", Mandic?
Did "The Internet" say it?

11 Never use your on-ramp ISP for your newsserver.

11 I'd suggest Giganews.

What does that have to do with astronomy, Mandic?

12 He'll be dead REAL SOON NOW.

12 Cosmically speaking, of course.

12 Comically speaking he died a long time ago.

What does your invective have to do with astronomy, Mandic?

65 Why are you being a top-posting idiot, Davie?

66 What does anything you're saying here have to do with astronomy, Dave?

67 I see that you never answer when anyone asks what your own posts have to
67 do with astronomy. No surprise there, AT ALL.

68 "or"

68 What does this thread have to do with astronomy, Davie?

69 I think he's too sensitive for the short school bus.

70 They got lost from their orbit from Planet X after it was blown up.
70 Blame it on the Martians.

What does any of that have to do with astronomy,
Phoenix|Master|Boss|Anna Konda|Klytus?

The Ice Cream Bandit writes:

196 The fact that I am now posting as The Ice Cream Bandit means that your
196 presupposition that I "had to" post as either you or Nightingale is
196 obviously erroneous.

196 I was neither compelled to, nor did I "have to" post as you or
196 Nightingale. It was purely a function of choice.

196 You, on the other hand, are clearly obsessed and compulsive about your
196 responses to me and others. You havce no choice. Prove me wrong by not
196 responding or writing any of your sily digests.

196 I seriously recommend you attend a psychological therapist and seek help
196 for your mental illness.

196 None of your ****ing business, asshole. Last I checked, I lived in the
196 United States of America, a country that values Freedom of Speech.

196 Do you have a problem with me exercising my Constitutionally-guaranteed
196 rights?

197 Why do you call it antagonism? Perhaps you are too sensitive for this world.

198 Davie is being all the kook that he can be!

199 Are you seriously going to attempt to put forward a logical argument for
199 whining/not whining, Davie? My opinion that you are whining is just as
199 valid as yours that others are being antagonistic to you.

199 Of course, none of this has anything to do with astronomy, your own
199 posts included, so it's rather ironic that you take people to task for
199 being off-topic vis a vis astronomy.

200 Do you really think you deserve an sincere answer to that, you ****ing
200 netkkkop?

201 Why do you insist on a dishonest and erroneous mischaracterization of
201 people's responses to you as "harassing"? Are you aware that you are
201 over the edge with your control issues?

202 His postings are just as on-topic as the one you just posted, stupid.

203 Wow. I am thoroughly enjoying the astronomical content of your post. WHy
203 can't that asshole ****nozzle Davie Tholen calm down and post about
203 astronomy like this? Sun, Moon, Stars.

204 I love the fact that I make you write that.

205 Your erroneous presupposition that I have an "inability to comprehend
205 the correct meaning of "perpetually" is hilarious and ironic:

205 Main Entry: per·pet·u·al
205 Pronunciation: p&r-'pe-ch&-w&l, -ch&l; -'pech-w&l
205 Function: adjective
205 Etymology: Middle English perpetuel, from Middle French, from Latin
205 perpetuus uninterrupted, from per- through + petere to go to -- more at
205 FEATHER
205 1 a : continuing forever : EVERLASTING b (1) : valid for all time (2) :
205 holding (as an office) for life or for an unlimited time
205 2 : occurring continually : indefinitely long-continued
205 3 : blooming continuously throughout the season

205 Your asking of others about what their posts have to do with astronomy
205 satisfies dictionary definition number 2, Davie:

205 2 : occurring continually : indefinitely long-continued

205 I have correctly applied the use of "perpetually" here, Tholen.

205 I have won. You have lost.

206 Why are you referring to multiple sentences which don't exist in your
206 post? Are you ill?

207 Brings to mind the famous tactic by the UberKook Edmond Wollmann; create
207 a newsgroup with a super-restrictive charter, bait people with
207 antagonistic posts, set follow-ups to the newsgroup he created, and then
207 complain that people are posting off topic there, in an atemtp to get
207 their accounts yanked.

207 I wouldn't even be here if Davie hadn't come trolling in the astrology
207 group I read.

208 Obstinacy.

209 Oh, for ****'s sake, knock it off, you demented freak.

210 I weep at the poetry of this poast. It is like listening to a triumphant
210 Wagnerian theme.

211 Yes, Tholen, please tell us what you regard as "classical music". So we
211 can laugh.

212 BUSTED!

213 Lora, my name is not Bartlo. Funny how that's the first nym you knew me
213 by, and it stuck with you. It was just the name of another guy I was
213 spoofing.

213 Davie Tholen; let this be a lesson to you: We do not choose our names;
213 they are given to us. They are handles for others to use.

214 I stand corrected!

215 2nd reply:

215 Come Friday, I'll be the proud owner of that Wergo set, as well as a
215 couple of other Nancarrow discs. I also ordered Ligeti's "Etudes"
215 (Edition 3).

215 (Damn, Tholen! I'm about to beat you in the "talking about classical
215 music" department!)

216 No. Kooks off themselves all the time. When's Tholen's turn?

217 Who's joking?

218 Why would a High School band tear up their music sheets, Davie?

219 One can trot out the evidence in the form of Davie Tholen and pronounce
219 your theory as proven!

220 And it was even about classical music!

221 Um, OCD?

222 ;-)

Ironic that you should talk about OCD, Bartlo, having posted 222 items
to multiple newsgroups using multiple aliases in so short a time.

Jerry Kohl writes:

1916 Good companion pieces. Ligeti's Etudes were strongly inlfuenced
1916 by Nancarrow, of course, but the tension due to being played by a
1916 live pianist (as opposed to a player piano) is tremendous, and
1916 Aimard's recording is the top choice.

1916 That's not difficult!

1916 "Légpárnás hajóm tele van angolnákkal."

1917 It's his best feature. That makes it his strong point.

1917 "Légpárnás hajóm tele van angolnákkal."

1918 Note: no response.

1918 Note: no response.

1918 How should I know, Tholen, if you refuse to tell us what it is
1918 you regard as "classical music"?

1918 "Légpárnás hajóm tele van angolnákkal."

1919 Reading comprehension problems again, Tholen? He didn't say
1919 you should say that with a *straight face*--he said you should
1919 get your *facts* straight.

1919 "Légpárnás hajóm tele van angolnákkal."

1920 He can't count that high. He's proved it over and over.

1920 "Légpárnás hajóm tele van angolnákkal."

1921 You, sir, are an imposter. No *real* ice-cream vandit would misspell
1921 neapolitan as "neopolitan" ...

1921 "Légpárnás hajóm tele van angolnákkal."

1922 Don't spoil his fun--but don't let him get away with misspelling
1922 "neapolitan", either. (Some things are sacred.)

1922 "Légpárnás hajóm tele van angolnákkal."

1923 It *was* fairly obvious. More or less the equivalent of Tholen
1923 wearing a tee-shirt proclaiming "I am an ostranamer!"

1923 "Légpárnás hajóm tele van angolnákkal."

1924 Yes, KBL is a past master of the deftly placed typo.

1924 "Légpárnás hajóm tele van angolnákkal."

1925 Much better. Naples salutes you!

1925 "Légpárnás hajóm tele van angolnákkal."

1926 Patrick, in Steven Moffat's sitcom, Coupling?

1926 "Légpárnás hajóm tele van angolnákkal."

1927 Give over! Nobody here will ever believe that!

1927 "Légpárnás hajóm tele van angolnákkal."

1928 Mebbe I should've called 'im an "impoaster"?

1928 "Légpárnás hajóm tele van angolnákkal."

1929 Uh-oh! Is that whirring sound I hear approaching from the distance
1929 Marcello Penso and his Kook-a-Matic name-generating machine?

1929 "Légpárnás hajóm tele van angolnákkal."

1930 As always, Nightingale, your steel-trap-like mind grasps my
1930 point immediately.

1930 Well, I have to admit that is true. But what does a sense of
1930 humour have to do with classical music, you non-sequitur
1930 person?

1930 "Légpárnás hajóm tele van angolnákkal."

1931 LOL! Well, there's no point in trying to avoid the inevitable. ;-)

1931 "Légpárnás hajóm tele van angolnákkal."

1932 Succinctly put, Risto. An imposter-Tholen is most easily recognized
1932 by the fact that what he/she says actually makes sense.

1932 "Légpárnás hajóm tele van angolnákkal."

1933 Hey, don't bring Dr Matt into this discussion! (Hmm, that reminds me--
1933 where *is* Dr Matt? We haven't heard from him for some time.)

1933 "Légpárnás hajóm tele van angolnákkal."

1934 ISTR that, the last two times we discussed this nightmarish possibility,
1934 the image of the animated broom in Dukas's "Apprenti sorcier" was
1934 mooted. You will recall that the initial dividing of the broom is
1934 represented musically when the bassoon theme is taken up in tandem
1934 by the bass clarinet. Since there certainly are more than one bass
1934 clarinet ... (I don't need to spell this out, do I?)

1934 "Légpárnás hajóm tele van angolnákkal."

1935 What does your counterpoint have to do with .... oh, I guess my
1935 eyes typoed that word ...

1935 "Légpárnás hajóm tele van angolnákkal."

1936 Understandable. Some memories are best repressed.

1936 "Légpárnás hajóm tele van angolnákkal."

Thank you. I had some help from a native speaker. Last time
