"Pat Flannery" wrote in message ... *Another interesting phaser problem...how exactly does the phaser know _what_ to disintegrate? Same way the transporter knows what to transport. Or when the Stargate knows to close vs. remain open. Or the doors on the Enterprise open when you're walking towards them, but remain closed if you fall against them in a drunken stupor. After the most power force in the universe (compound interest) comes "will of the writer." It gets the target person...and their clothes and equipment; but leaves the ground they were standing on intact! Wouldn't one expect something more along the lines of "The Terminator's" time-travel field- where everything inside a 7 foot diameter sphere goes away, leaving a pit in the surface where the as-yet-unsuspected murderous Human/Romulan offspring of Tasha Yar- Kela (Sela's twin sister....this one the "Evil Twin" even by cold-green-blooded Romulan standards), once stood? |

"Pat Flannery" wrote in message: No problem- you just jump into The Time Tunnel, and whizz yourself back to those days of yore... Would anybody remember a show called "UFO" that aired in the late 60's or so? This futuristic story of Earth society included the regular dispatches of fleets of interceptors to destroy invanding spinning flying saucers (all identical) that seemed to visit Earth with astonishing regularity back in those days. I think the authorities responsible for the task of defending Earth from the aliens inside could be compared to an organization like "International Rescue" from the infamous Thunderbirds series. The plot did allow a few of these "UFO's" to land and avoid detection long enough to attempt abductions and such, thus providing plot fodder for the short life of the series. One other detail worthy of note is that these aliens breathed oxygen from a liquid, so their space-suits were filled to the brim with an oxygenated fluid that resembled furnace oil to keep them alive. I remember one episode where a human was abducted and converted to liquid breathing just like them, with the remainder of the show depicting the rescue of the crew member along with all of the gory details of clearing his lungs sufficently to breath real air again. Was I the only person who ever saw this show before it was cancelled, or does anybody else here remember this one? -- Sent to you by Ken at Replace "who?" with "b2" to reply by e-mail. |

Was I the only person who ever saw this show before it was cancelled, or does anybody else here remember this one? I never actually saw "U.F.O.", but I've heard a lot about it. It was the first live-action show produced by Gerry Anderson, whose other productions all featured "Super Marionation" -- i.e., marionettes, aka puppets. His other shows included the "Thunderbirds At Go" that you mentioned, plus other stellar offerings like "Fireball XL-5" and "Supercar." I'm a little older, so I remember watching "Fireball XL-5" and "Supercar" when I was a kid. I never really got into "Thunderbirds At Go," I guess I was a little too old. And IIRC, "U.F.O." wasn't widely syndicated in the U.S. At least, it never ran on any of my local channels when I was growing up, unlike the puppet shows. I was a HUGE "Supercar" fanatic, and I never missed an episode of "Fireball XL-5." In fact, I wanted a model of Supercar desperately when I was 11 years old -- and never got one. Which is why I'm irrationally tickled by the fact that someone made a Supercar "model" for the latest version of Microsoft's Flight Simulator. So, now I not only have a model of Supercar, I can actually fly it! Doug |

"OM"
the Time Tunnel have improved it with new quantom technology I was watching Time Tunnel one day in the late 70s. The episode where a convict escapes from prison and ducks into the time tunnel. The convict was Robert Duvall. Pretty good episode. The computers on that show...recycled from Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea? That was a weird show. Ever notice there was almost no crew? I am gonna guess there was at least one episode where they get attacked by a giant octopus. |
