No oxygen in the atmosphere to help it burn fuel. I think a balloon would have been much more efficient.

Bring plants to Mars and there will be plenty of oxygen to help Martian style helicopters burn fuel.

Turn Mars on its side with carefully launched asteroids--and give it a year long summer season--and this will not be necessary Bert--so long as we do not aggravate the native Martians!
