grinding mirrors
I am thinking of grinding and polishing a 10" mirror. Where can I purchase
this and about how much is the cost? Is there a website which shows how this is done? thanks john |

You wont save much, if any money over buying a Chinese dob though. It's more a matter of the satisfaction of "do it yourself" telescope making. L. |

You can obtain what you need from Newport Glass Works
http://www.newportglass.com/ But I wouldn't start with a 10" if it is your 1st mirror. I am currently working on a 6" with plans later to step up to an 8 or a 10", then ultimately a 12". There are several books that include information on mirror grinding and all of them suggest starting with a *small* mirror first. "n3drk" wrote in message .. . It's more a matter of the satisfaction of "do it yourself" telescope making. But on the other hand, you will learn a lot more, and if you do it right you'll achieve far better quality optics. This is a great book which I used to make two very fine 8 inch newtonians. Martin |
