Default Response to V Tech tragedy -

An amateur astronomer wrote upon hearing of this tragedy,
quote:

"Don't know anyone at V Tech. Don't know why the events there
should have any significance for me. Worse things happen daily
in places I'm at home in to people I've known for decades. My
former _______ died (last week). A man I greatly admired.
Lots of other people feel the same way. It's closer to home and
many times more personal than V Tech."

I guess we should thank the distinguished amateur for his
honesty and take his advice. And mind our own business!

How right he is. And what's the big deal with the September 11, 2001
incident? After all, more people died in traffic accidents in
September 2001 than in the terrorist incident. And I didn't know
anyone killed on 9-11-2001. So -- whats the big deal -- why all this
****ing and moaning about 9-11???

That's just silly.

How do we stop traffic accidents entirely, except by banning cars? We
are doing what we can to make the roads safer.

The deaths due to terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 were over
and above the number of deaths that should have normally happened on
that day. They were murders. And the masterminds behind those murders
are still on the loose. Plotting to kill thousands more people,
millions if they can. No one is safe.

We have a single point of hazard - al-Qaeda and anti-American Islamic
fanaticism in general. This new additional risk to our lives needs to
be swiftly eradicated before it can become well-established and hard
to remove.

When it comes to the Virginia Tech incident, sadly, people do go crazy
from time to time. We can't stop people from going crazy, even if we
might be able to make it harder for crazy people to get their hands on
guns without compromising the Second Amendment rights of ordinary
Americans.

The big deal is you missed it and survived. Now we have to carry
your deadbeat ass on welfare and starve 50 families to keep you
happy so you wont go out and kidnap some kid or beat up your
wife, or drive an airplane into a building! That's the big deal.
