soyuz relocation without the Canadarm?
Hi all,
hope that this is not a FAQ: Is it not possible to use Canadarm2 to move the Soyuz? And much less hassle? Cheers, Michael |

There are no grapple points on the Soyuz, and no SSRMS base point (PDGF) close enough. More importantly, using the SSRMS to do the job would require at least one crew member to stay aboard the station during the procedure. If the redock was unsuccessful, they would have no way home. --Chris |

The arm does not have grapple points on the russian segment and cannot reach the areas from its existing grapple points. Also, if something goes wrong during Soyuz repositioning, the crew would still be on the station and without a way to get back to earth should there be something wrong. |
