Interesting but I thought that EMP weapons were out of favour because
after the war you had more reconstruction to do. Better to capture the
telephone exchange rather than destroy it etc

According to a little slip on the part of the Army, they now have EMP
hand grenades:
http://www.defensetech.org/archives/004688.htmlWe seriously don't want
those things to fall into the hands of terrorists.

Indeed it's yet another technology that isn't needed, *has no credible
target and has little legitimate use outside of terrorist use.

A the moment the US Army hasn't got an enemy whose mobile *phones they
can't switch off whenever they feel like it.

Perhaps they're looking forward to the next one against the Chinese or
the Russians. *Given that the Chinese _are_ deploying their own mobile
phones, they probably aren't making them US-military-friendly.

I don't think anyone makes mobile phones with the intention of making them
'US military friendly'. *I understand that US law will require mobile phones
in the USA to give their position out so a squad car can be sent around
right away, *which means that Osama bin Ladin and friends will have to nip
down to a Carphone Warehouse in the UK to buy an untracable tri-band one for
about £20 if they want an untraceable one...

Well, the mental midgets in Washington are doing everything with
GPS tags
these fays, since it's GM.'s Law, it has nothing to do with US Law.
But the people with technology brains are still mostly building Pv
Cell Energy,
Drones, Autonomous Vehicles, On-Line Banking, On-Line Publishing,
Holograms,
Bi-Optical Computers, USB, and Self-Replicating Robots for the
idiots

I don't see these things as being useful against IED's, though,
particularly because with a few wires and a blasting cap you can make an
IED that'll be remotely detonated by an EMP weapon -- better not stand on
the road when you toss that grenade.

The British in Northern Ireland took to carrying large broad band noise
transmitting radios about the place at one stage, *this caused a number of
houses in Catholic areas of Belfast to explode.

The IRA then took to putting clever front ends on their bombs.

As the IRA later moved to command wire detonation it's reasonable to assume
the British found a way around that one as well.

It'sreasonable to assume something similar is going on in Iraq and
Afghanistan.

Stopping culvert bombs blowing your vehicles, *and soldiers, to bits is a
job for experts working in an ever changing field...

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Barbeques on fire by the chalets past the castle headland
I watched the gift shops glitter in the darkness off the Newborough gate
All these moments will be lost in time, like icecream on the beach
Time for tea.
