See: http://www.space-travel.com/reports/ NASA_to_unveil_space_station_name_on_Colbert_show_ 999.html Great. Since no living human being can have his image on a stamp, dollar, or name on a space station, if he wins, kill him so the space station can be named after him; "Station Jackass". -- http://OnToMars.org For discussions about Mars and Mars colonization |

I think a compromise is called for here. Just call the new module Steve. Yours truly, (a different)Steve |

If his name is used, I can see it becoming a common means of referring to some of the activities which the section is intended to support, and then as a euphemism for more direct words associated with those activities. AIUI, the thing was constructed in Europe : it would have been courteous to name it after a respected European, or to have allowed Europe to choose. "Seagoon" would be a nice substitute for Colbert; "Benedict" more elegant. Eh, this is a prime example of the Golden Rule. He with the gold, makes the rules. We bought and paid for it. -- Greg Moore Ask me about lily, an RPI based CMC. |

Remind me again why an American module should be named after some European most Americans have never heard of? Besides, if you really think NASA will end up naming the module "The Colbert" or "The Steve" or any variation on that, I want to have some of what you're smoking. Personally, I think they should, it might show they have a sense of humour, but they won't. -- (c) John Stockton, nr London, UK. Turnpike v6.05. Web URL:http://www.merlyn.demon.co.uk/ - w. FWIW, I agree... my only regret is that the US didn't preemptively name the FGB since we bought and paid for it as well. They will name *something* after him (which shows *some* sense of humor), but probably not the thing that would show the *most* sense of humor. If you know what I mean. |

Please realise that "you" can, as here, be plural; it follows "We", so plural is expected. It refers not to GDM but to the USA.
