Hi Group.

I seem to be missing October S&T. Has anyone in the UK had theirs yet?

I queried non-arrival last week. They blamed the postal strike in "the
UK" and wouldn't send out the replacement they promised the day
before.
I told them that the strike was very local and not continuous in a few
places. Suggested that their distributors should use some initiative
to get issues already paid for out to their subscribers. Haven't heard
any more, what a surprise.

My November issue has just arrived but still no October issue.
So much for postal strikes.

Me neither here in Glasgow, though November arrived yesterday. Emailed S&T.
They asked me to wait a few days as they seem to be being delivered, if not,
they would send me another. I have had several non-deliveries since S&T was
taken over and the issues downsized. Distribution issues, financial issues?

Hi Group,

Nice to know I am not alone. November S&T arrived on Thursday but no
October. So I went to the local W H Smith and bought a copy there. I
begin to wonder how long S&T will survive.

Me too. S&T are clearly suffering in the economic downturn with loss of
readership and advertising revenue; the magazine is half as thick as it used
to be a couple of years ago, and since Sky Publishing sold out to another
publishing company. I've been a subscriber since I was a youngster in 1974.
Most specialist magazines are suffering to a degree due also to the rise of
the internet as a source of free information. I'd hate to see it go, but
nothing lasts for ever.

Hi Group,

My copy of October S&T arrived today. So now I have two copies!
It would be sad to see a magazine as good as and as informative as S&T
be replaced by some pages on the Web. Newspapers are increasingly
publishing content on the Web which used to be in the hard copy print.
To me and I suspect, a lot of other people, especially in the UK
non-urban regions, this is a no go area and readers will be lost to
these publications because a great many of us do not have Broadband or a
fast enough connection to enable us to follow this trend. A typical web
page complete with clever graphics and pictures can take up to 5 minutes
to download to my computer, and I am only 5 miles from the nearest
exchange!
