Default Dangers of Global Warming

Since it would take a long time before we have to worry about New York flooding,
other than maybe having tornadoes and hurricanes slightly more often, which could
be just a coincidence, it seemed as if the major noticeable consequences of
global warming would simply be the failure of food crops in tropical countries...

which, sadly, could easily be ignored when we read of it in our newspapers.

However, this news item

http://www.scienceworldreport.com/ar...ate-change.htm

warns that climate change could have more devastating global consequences.

Of course, it is difficult to reduce energy use in the way that is often
advocated as the way to limit carbon emissions. We need a strong economy - and
the kind of industrial capacity that supports adequate military capability to
defend liberty from its many foes.

But, as I've pointed out, that is hardly an insoluble problem. There's such a
thing as nuclear power - and breeding fuel from Uranium-238 and Thorium-232
should give us plenty of time to solve the more difficult problem of fusion power.

Personally, I doubt that nuclear energy will ever be much of a
solution. Just too expensive. Much more likely will be hydrocarbon
fuels produced using sunlight. We're quite close to that now- it
wouldn't take a very great effort to get the rest of the way. And our
system is already set up for utilizing liquid fuels. That takes care
of the transportation sector. Electricity is already cost effective
using wind and solar, we just need better energy storage solutions.
Again, though, not so difficult given where technology seems to be
headed.

The world has more to fear from the economic disaster of spending $40 trillion on this B.S. and finding out that you've been fighting a non-existent problem. It's the ultimate communist solution to a restless population, dig a whole and fill it in.

And an immoral elite which doesn't care one way or another provided their virtual wealth continues to grow un-taxed and massively, publicly subsidized.. Global warming is just another test of mankind's inability to organize itself for the benefit of the majority. We haven't even managed to give 50% of our 7 billion female members their natural, equal rights. Huge fractions of our 7 billion are starving or slaves or live under tyrants. While billions more stuff their drooling gobs with toxic, industrialized crap grown on stolen rainforest or raped from polluted seas.

The fallen civilizations, we so admire, all had massive inequality, mass slavery and organized corruption as their foundation stones. Our own civilization is founded on the same obscene principles and only safe from mob rule by virtue of armed force.

All the global symptoms are clearly terminal. Most tipping points are well past their sell-by dates and the only snake oil salesmen left specialize in jackboot, market economics. It is no longer ironic that Trump may soon buy the best seat at the conflagration of Gawd's Own Arsehole. One man's freedom is always another's nationalist, economist, colonialist hydra. One completely blind to the suffering it has caused and too ashamed to allow a single honest mirror in its tarnished, sewage tide-marked, marbled halls.

Try telling that to a New Yorker.

I do my daily commute to work and back in my Chevy Volt using only electricity. It consumes a mere 200 watts per mile at a cost of less than 1 cent per mile. All courtesy of the Com Edison Byron Nuke plant and local windmills.. I get to work just as fast as the guy in the Porsche SUV while he gets a measly 8mpg in his gas hog.

I fill up every night at my friendly 110 volt plug in my garage and next morning the "tank" is full again, ready to covey me another 45+ miles. I have great torque and nothing spews out the tailpipe, there is not a series of explosions pushing this vehicle forward, just the application of Maxwell's equations and some magnets doing their work silently and very efficiently.

In the future would I consider going back to a gasoline car? Never! Ask any Volt owner and to a person they will tell you the same thing. Right now brand new ones are selling for less than $20k at our local dealer. Pretty good deal all around if you ask me.

Incorrect.

*AND* from the coal plants located nearby.

Most people don't drive 8-mpg SUVs. Or haven't you noticed?

No coal plants serve this area. Most coal plants in Illinois are going bankrupt. And yes, the hottest selling cars are SUVs and they do get 8mpg in city driving, which is where the overwhelming amount of commutes happen. So it makes sense to drive a vehicle that doesn't waste fuel idling at a red light. Hybrid electric or plug-in electric or plug-in hybrid. The future is electric propulsion, it certainly isn't so called "clean diesel" which turns out to be not so clean after all.
