New Marine Corp commercial....."Towards the Sound of Chaos"

I think living in a world where the USA was sent back like a dog with its tail between its legs after taking on a gang of blokes wearing bed sheets and armed with a load of Soviet army surpless rifles and RPGs wouldn't be a pleasant experience. Sent packing? The whole point of going in there is to establish a democracy over a dictatorship. So victory for the US can be claimed the minute the...people of these countries clearly tell us to leave. For the world's Muslims to consider the US to have won this has to be a request from the Afghan government, not an order at gun point. Currently the Taliban is preparing to remake the retreat from Saigon, this time with dust. Andrew Swallow |

Would a civil war prevent anti-Western terrorist groups from using Afghanistan as a refuge? If so when and how do we start the civil war? Andrew Swallow |

You know every imperial general since Alexander the Great thought that. So far the Afghans have beaten them all... Except it isn't imperial in the traditional sense. There is a huge Afghan contingent with us. Heck the whole Anti-Taliban Northern Alliance formed the core of the government that came into place in 2002. Convincing the undecided people we're serious is key and is what happened in Iraq. Also, like Iraq, is setting up a gov't that can continue and defend themselves, and provide training nd support to them to get there. |

The Afghans beat them all. A recent Russian general said, 'Taking Tora Bora is quite a feat. I should know - I did it three times! But how do you keep it when you've got it?" Dennis |
