Default New Marine Corp commercial....."Towards the Sound of Chaos"

The new commercial for the Marine Corps has an
inspiring vision. Drawing the analogy of 'first responders'.

"First to move towards the sounds of
Tyranny, Injustice and Despair!"

I believe, and hope, that we're not far from that future
where the militaries of the world become more rescuers
than invaders. If democracy can find it's way into a couple
of more places, say Iran and China, that vision could soon
become reality.

You don't understand the purpose of the Marines. They are an attack
force. They're not "nation builders" and you don't want them doing
extended policing. It's just not what they're taught or trained for.
Yes, they can do a humanitarian mission for a few weeks but it loses
their edge.

And if you think I'm wrong, consider that when Iraq was winding down,
you had Marines asking to be sent to Afghanistan. Sittting in crazy
Iraq with no combat mission isn't for them. They want to be in the
thick of things.

If you want nation builders, send the Peace Corps. You want to
demoralize an enemy and capture ground, send the Marines.

Iraq is going OK except for the idiotic decision not to get at least
training and advisory units based there, plus air force ones that then
need for air cover, though that can be done from Kuwait to a certain
extent. As a guard force ot cut back on Iranian meddling.

Afghanistan is politically messed up. It can be won on the ground as
Iraq was if the same policy is followed.

The gov't in DC now doesn't want to do what was done in Iraq and
provide proper numbers in the short term to get things done right.

Can we try and concentrate on Afghanistan (and possibly Iraq) for the
moment please.

I think living in a world where the USA was sent back like a dog with
its tail between its legs after taking on a gang of blokes wearing bed
sheets and armed with a load of Soviet army surpless rifles and RPGs
wouldn't be a pleasant experience.

Sent packing? The whole point of going in there is to establish
a democracy over a dictatorship. So victory for the US
can be claimed the minute the...people of these countries
clearly tell us to leave.

Let me know when Afghanistan has a free and fair election...

Right now the best we can hope for is a friendly dictator who controls
at least the major cities and manages to keep a lid on 'non state
actors' who wish to operate out of the country while having training
bases there.

The only way we're ever going to win in Afghanistan is by neutralising
Pakistan.

The only way to do that is to stop military aid.

But we can't because if we do the Pakistani army will close the borders
and we can't supply our people in Afghanistan.

And now you get to ask yourself why Pakistan is acting in this way.
