Why the Ares-1 is already DEAD

But it isn't for any of the reasons you provide. Your analysis is all screwed up. Particularly this part: "The 1-X test shows that a standard SRB can be launched alone with an cargo payload and probably also with a manned capsule atop it (despite, NOT so heavy like the current Orion design) and that its thrust oscillation is better than expected but the crucial figure of the 1-X test is at page 15 of the 30 Day Report where it states that the 'Altitude at separation' has been '~128 kft (nominal ~ 129 kft)' that's around 39 km." Apparently, those are really small kilometers. :-D Pat |

The implication in the article is that the Ares ended up 39 kilometers below the intended altitude. no, it's 6 km. UNDER the altitude where the Shuttle SRB are jettisoned (45 km.) and about 16-17 km. UNDER the expected Ares-1 stage separation (55-57 km.) also, the 5-segments SRB can't reach the same altitude of the 1-X (with the same upperstages mass) since the SRB-5 burns only 116 seconds instead of 124 seconds of a standard SRB .. |

I make 128,000 feet as 39.0144 kilometers. The implication in the article is that the Ares ended up 39 kilometers below the intended altitude. It's a pretty article, with lots of red and yellow highlighting in the text: http://www.ghostnasa.com/posts2/058ares1dead.html But it needs more exclamation points to get up to full-blown rant speed. Mentioning the Antichrist at some point always helps in this regard also. Pat |
