"A Langrangian is not a physical thing;it is a mathematical thing - a
kind of differential equation to be exact. But physics and maths are so
closely connected these days that it is hard to separate the numbers
from the things they describe. In fact,a month after [Philip]
Morrison's remarks,Nobel Prize winner Burton Richter of the Stanford
Linear Accelerator Center said something that eerily echoed it: "
Mathematics is a language that is used to describe nature" he said
"But the theorists are beginning to think it is nature. To them the
Langrangians are the reality " Discover Magazine ,1983

Long before Langrangians there was the Ra/Dec framework on which
Newton built his absolute/relative time, space and motion in order to
make it appear that the predictable trajectories of objects at a
human level match planetary orbital motion by vaguely pointing in the
direction of the predictive convenience of Ra/Dec which in itself is
an extension of the 24 hour AM/PM cycle and the Lat/Long system. Now
that the error is out in the open and the devastation it caused in the
huge area of science where planetary dynamics and terrestrial effects
meet,it remains only upon the speed of recovery for all concerned as
the highest profile organization has at least come to its senses
without being transparent about it.

Over the last few days people on the East Coast of the USA have become
concerned for the tides as the additional component added by the
hurricane caused severe damage and intruded into the normal civil
activities demonstrating that men wait for nature and cannot control
it.The tides are perhaps the most sensitive to astronomical inputs
whether it is the daily and annual motions of the Earth or the lunar
inputs which alter degrees on tidal amplitude. The empiricists came
close in the late 17th century to making great strides and especially
in the letter of Wallis to Boyle which is so full of topics that it
made the first addition of the Royal Society transactions.Barely a few
decades later they adopted Ra/Dec and everything shut down and
remained that way until the error was spotted recently and now studies
can begin once again.

Why not hurricane formation and galactic formation which is far more
productive and especially as it leaves room for external forces
acting on a galactic system as opposed to the dreary empiricists who
can't consider it and try to work off some idiotic 'dark' solution to
hold the structure together notwithstanding the mindnumbing idea of
everything flying apart ala 'big bang' which prevents a more reasoned
approach.

http://syncopater.com/images/space/h...alaxy_550w.jpg

It is not just adopting the 24 hour AM/PM system and the Lat/Long
system as containing the correct planetary facts but rather the
ability to move information around properly so that it is possible to
see why it is right and that the Ra/Dec extension is a convenient
extension with advantages and severe limitations. The idea of plate
tectonics came from the jigsaw puzzle of continents and likewise
hurricanes and galaxies- there is a common component that gives them
their shape through their motion and the external forces acting on
them.

You know, looking at some idiot try a hamfisted attempt to insert
rotation into plate tectonics when it is possible to move information
around first and especially introducing an astronomical component
common to all rotating celestial bodies with fluid compositions -
differential rotation. The you look at the effects of an uneven
rotational gradient which is an uneven spherical shape or what was
formally known as an 'equatorial bulge spot '.Then you bundle it with
the evolution and motion of the surface crust using the Mid Atlantic
Ridge and its development as a more suitable way to introduce global
differential rotation in the fluid interior thereby displacing the
unsuitable 'convection cells'.

The idea is know when to spot something that is more effective than
something else and apply it to see how it fits, while the leap from
hurricane structure to galactic structure is enormous, the similarities
are there but in an era of the idiotic and explosive 'big bang',the
graceful forces acting on galactic evolution can;t be considered,at
least by anyone of substance- to study one approach the other has to
go.

I am reading articles on the hurricane and comments by readers, some of
whom have fallen into a belief that humans can control the planet's
temperature. The reasonable reader points out that Sandy was a category
1 storm that got more than its fair share of breaks to pummel the
Eastern seaboard - the blocking high pressure ridge that directed it
towards New Jersey, the astronomical inputs which coincided with
landfall at high tide and the lunar cycle which made the tides even
higher along with it merging with a system coming in from the West.

A lot of interest is being wasted on the usual nonsense driven by
social/political concerns but an astronomer would have a different
take on the matter from multiple perspectives including the
sensitivity of tidal issues to the dynamics of the planet and that of
the moon. The devastation of the hurricane may not have been as severe
had landfall occurred at a time when the Eastern portion of the USA
was at a different point in respect to the moon in the rotational
cycle as lower tides correspond to a smaller area of flooding but with
astronomers stuck with an ideology where the Earth doesn't keep pace
with a 24 hour cycle none of this can be considered. It is absolutely
crucial for all Earth sciences that Ra/Dec perspective be removed as
soon as possible as a central tenet for planetary dynamics given that
it is blocking appreciation of the Earth's rotation in respect to the
lunar cycle where this type of reasoning is useful -

"The lunar day is longer than the Earth day because the Moon orbits in
the same direction the Earth spins. This is analogous to the minute
hand on a watch crossing the hour hand at 12:00 and then again at
about 1:05˝ (not at 1:00).The Moon orbits the Earth in the same
direction as the Earth rotates on its axis, so it takes slightly more
than a day—about 24 hours and 50 minutes—for the Moon to return to the
same location in the sky." Wiki article
