A while ago one of the contributors, with the appropriate pseudo-authority of an echo chamber, announced that mathematical voodoo is more relevant than normal descriptions and normal language. It was something to do with the wave/particle junk and the strain on language to make it appear that a moving object can be both and neither simultaneously but ultimately it is a high end academic welfare scam that worked for a number of decades but has since passed its sell by date.

What looks like a mathematical ascent really is an astronomical descent that has been going on for 3 centuries but the recent total dominance of mathematical voodoo has its roots about 40 years ago when theorists really started to lose the run of themselves -

“A Langrangian is not a physical thing;it is a mathematical thing – a
kind of differential equation to be exact. But physics and maths are so
closely connected these days that it is hard to separate the numbers
from the things they describe. In fact,a month after [Philip]
Morrison’s remarks,Nobel Prize winner Burton Richter of the Stanford
Linear Accelerator Center said something that eerily echoed it: ”
Mathematics is a language that is used to describe nature” he said
“But the theorists are beginning to think it is nature. To them the
Langrangians are the reality ” Discover Magazine ,1983

I am sure some contributors here will be relieved that I moved away from insights like the partitioning of direct/retrograde planetary observations and their translation into perspectives seen from a moving Earth but the mathematical dross is still present in obscuring genuine creative and productive astronomical research.

You *would* be the one to jump into the middle of a masturbatory
circle jerk between two mentally ill morons, wouldn't you?

These kids who never made it to adulthood are a product of an inter-generational tragedy but those who feel themselves above the noise are really part of it, even in silence.

It is the nature of each era to make the best of those who are alive instead of living off perceived past glories but these glories, at least in the mathematician involvement in astronomy is nothing short of catastrophic.

How else to account for the inability to express the Equatorial rotation speed for a 24901 mile circumference using the 24 hour system in tandem with the Lat/Long system - the speed is 1037.5 miles per hour.

The refugees from the science fiction forum are a nuisance breed on their own and far removed from RA/Dec enthusiasts but that they dominate this last place where astronomy is practiced in the way it should. Who can blame these unfortunates from making things up as they go along as the policy of empirical mathematicians have been exactly that for centuries.

I would laugh at these guys but they would see that as an invitation unfortunately.

No, it only seems that way because you do not understand mathematics.

I would suggest that you go back to school, except that I fear you are unwilling
to learn, and thus would merely waste the time of your teachers.

Or anything else. Like how to walk and breath at the same time.

incapable, more like.

to learn, and thus would merely waste the time

And take the place of someone who isn't as stupid and useless.

You do realize, don't you, that he doesn't actually read your
replies, and is incapable of responding to anything anyone else
actually posts? Don't you? The dude's not right in the head.

The 24 hour system is an average which allows the Lat/Long system to represent a constant rotation at a rate of 15 degrees per hour hence there is no junk about the Earth slowing down, there are only the two distinct surface rotations, one variable and one constant. The neat and intricate precept that allows 'average' to substitute for 'constant' would delight those who haven't lost the spirit of curiosity and creativity.

There is no advantage pointing in the direction of the mindless however I do make the distinction between people like Alsing who present objections even if they are designed for less than productive purposes.
