I am a little disappointed that many do not take the trouble to explain why
they give a particular answer. I certainly do not think it does the image of science or scientists any favours not to at least point to a resource or give a simple explanation of why they think as they do. For myself, I read the info I can understand, ie, that which is not steeped in such complex jargon or maths as to be a turn off, then formulate my own ideas. I seriously think that we all need to bring science down to earth more, as it were (pun intended), as the basic concepts should be explainable without huge amounts of complexity. Brian I appreciate your dilemma: however, if someone is responding with 'complex jargon' or maths then that is probably because it is required to answer the question. If you can't understand the answer because of the complexity then maybe just ask another question to get some clarification. If someone has gone to the trouble of giving a complex answer they will most likely be happy to explain a bit more. It's often difficult to tell what level the question is coming from. As for links for further reference, that's always a good suggestion. I note that that already does happen quite often. Cheers. Ken |
