Default Aerospaceplane - 1961

The latest issue of Aerospace Projects review has a few articles ont
he early 60's Aerospaceplane project. Numerous drawings, as well as
all-new color artwork produced for this issue.

The Lockheed version was the first project I worked on when I graduated
from college! It was the wet dream of the Air Force for a LONG time!

The idea was to takeoff from a runway, accelerate to Mach 6-7 on
turboramjets, scoop up lots of air, liquefy it, light the rockets and
zoom into low Earth orbit. Return was also to land on the same (or
similar) runway.

My -- how innocent we were!

This sounds like the operating principle of HOTOL and Skylon.
