Why is the Sun's Surface so Cool ???
Hi Twitty It would be nice if we could measure the layers of the Sun.
Starting up from the Sun's core it has three zones. The radiative zone has to be very hot(how hot??) because this is the zone photons have big problems getting out(Over 100,000 years or more) When they do get out they go into the convection zone. Here we have the solar gas which is cooler(how much cooler??) This gas undergoes a boiling, convective motion. Reality is this this big upwelling cells of gas break down into smaller ones and create the photosphere's granular appearance,.So here we are at what we can see. The photosphere is the Sun's visible surface its thin(About 250 miles) Here we see its ruff appearance. Here we see its Sun spots and of corse we have the Sun's atmosphere (known as the corona) We invented the "coronagraph" (man made eclipse) Have a great picture showing two coronal mass ejections on opposite sides of the Sun sending out great flares of charge particles into space. Naturally twitty I have my own theory why the surface of the Sun is so cool. Bert |
