Default Unofficial Space Shuttle Manifest

Rev 2 Mar 2004

The following is the Unofficial Space Shuttle Manifest. This file gives the
launch dates, orbiter, and payloads for upcoming shuttle launches. The launch
time and orbit parameters are also given where available. Note that the
launch date and time are officially set about two weeks before launch at the
Flight Readiness Review (which usually selects the date and time in the
manifest). The manifest is also subject to a lot of shuffling and date
changing (which leads to the STS numbers not being in order) so beware when
planning to see a shuttle launch.

Please send changes and updates to:

Abbreviations used in manifest:

STS - (Space Transportation System) number of the flight. The STS numbers
may not be in order due to delays in some missions and changes in schedule once
an STS number has been assigned.

Date - Day Month Year - dd mm yy (Note that most launches are on Thursday.)

Time - Earliest launch time. The "S" means "U.S. Eastern Standard Time" and
"D" means "U.S. Eastern Daylight Time". All launch times are derived from
publically available information.

Missions to ISS have a 5-10 minute launch window, 51.60 degree inclination, and
a 328 km initial altitude.

The abbreviations for the Orbiter names are
Col Columbia (OV-102)
Dis Discovery (OV-103)
Atl Atlantis (OV-104)
End Endeavour (OV-105)

Payload - Payloads in the cargo bay that are being launched.

What is the reason to use Spacehab instead of an MPLM ?
What does Spacehab do that MPLM can't ?

A Spacehab-SM can fit in the payload bay with ITS S5. I don't think an MPLM
can. You will note that the only other Spacehab flight on the manifest
(116/12A.1) carries ITS P5, the twin of ITS S5.

There is not enough room in the payload bay for the Truss Segment
("ITS P5") along with an MPLM and the Orbiter Docking System, but the
smaller Spacehab Single Module (SM) will fit.

Well, that lead to my question. Why isn't STS116 on the manifest?

STS 121 5 May 05 - Atl-27 ISS-18-ULF1.1, MPLM(P), ICC, LMC

STS 115 29 Sep 05
Atl-28 ISS-19-12A, ITS P3/P4 (PV Module, 6 battery sets,
2 ULCAS), PDGF, RAMBO-P, MEPSI

Any paticular reason these two are back to back Atlantis flights?

Also, looking at the long term I'm guessing regardless of when its made
Atlantis' 33rd flight will be its last. No point in sending the oribter to
another ODMP with the program closing and Discovery or Endeavour will make the
last flight somewhere down the line.

I originally thought it was a typo or cut-n-paste error, but there's a real
reason for it: STS-115 is a heavyweight flight that can't go on Discovery,
and Endeavour isn't out of OMM yet.

I thought Discovery and Atlantis were as identical as orbiters could get, the
closest thing to "production series" orbiters. And Endeavour is pretty damn
close to the two.

Only Columbia, and to a lesser degree, Challenger had major weight differences
from the later 3 orbiters.

Also, looking at the long term I'm guessing regardless of when its

Endeavour will make the last flight somewhere down the line.

At the moment the long-term plan shows Atlantis making four more flights
after that.

"STS 131 16 Apr 09 Atl-33 ISS-34-ULF3, MPLM(A), LMC (EPF P/Ls)"

This manifest doesn't show Atlantis slated for any further flights after this.
And this makes sense OV-104 would be the first to be retired considering
Atlantis' last OMM was completed back in 1999 or 2000 if memory serves. Whereas
Discovery finished off her's and Endeavour is undergoing one now.

The key word is "major". Discovery *is* ever so slightly heavier than the
other two, and the P3/4 truss segments are heavy enough that it makes a
difference. 117 (S3/S4) can't fly on Discovery, either.

Looks like Steven has some updates to make. :-) I show Atlantis flying 121,
115, 118, 122, 125, 132, 134, 136, 138, 140, and 142.
