Default Lidl Skylux finder - right way up!

...Anybody else noticed this? Not quoted in manual....must have an inverting lens within the tube. Finally can directly compare finder field with naked eye view and Nortons etc without all that previous agro;-)

Default Lidl Skylux finder - right way up!

Not much to complain about for the price is there? :-)

I managed a brief look at the Moon between snowshowers in the daylight.

Not enough contrast but that wasn't the scope's fault at all.
Then I had a look at some Redwings in a tree about 200 metres away.
Excellent clarity at 35x with no visible false violet around the twigs
set against the sky.
The next step up 58x(?) was just a little dim without bright sunshine.
But I could still see the detail in the bird's feathers and in the
catkins on the tree.
A pleasure to have something portable at last!

Have you tried it on the sun with a Baader solar filter yet?

Regards

Chris - glad you're enjoying your Skylux;-) Re the birds - I think it would make a great telephoto-lens with rigid tripod already included!

Yes - view the sun most mornings now both Ha and WL - latter via Skylux+Baader filter with sample pic at my scope review http://www.astroman.fsnet.co.uk/skylux.htm

As there's plenty of light from Sun I've slightly stopped the OG down for the Baader filter aperture to 60mm to minimise any OG aberrations.

Amazing! Excellent review! Just as we've come to expect from you of
course.

You seem to have everything imaginable covered and remarkably quickly
so soon after purchase!

No chance to try anything serious over here yet so I'd better get back
to your website. :-)

Jean-Charles in France has dissected his Skylux finder and reports thus...
"I've taken this finder apart, because I'm very curious about optics. To my great surprise, there is a small Schmidt-Pechan prism inside, like in expensive roof-prism binoculars !
It is always stated that good roof prisms are expensive because they are very difficult to manufacture, the required tolerances for the "roof" face are indeed very small. I'm amazed to find such a prism here !
This is my first refractor, I have no idea if this is a common feature.

This finder is in fact a 6x24. The field of view is 7.3°, and the apparent field of view is 44°. I've compared it in daylight with a small Zeiss monocular : the image is equally sharp in both devices, the monocular has only slightly more contrast. This finder is very good !

Jean-Charles "
