Willman-Bell sells a nice book called "Practical Computer-Aided Lens Design"
which really is practical. Get that and download the free version of Oslo and
you'll have all you need to keep yourself busy for a good long time.

A good all-around treatise on optical design is "Modern Optical Engineering" by
Warren J. Smith.
