Has anyone looked at the rock that is just below center in Opportunity's Sol 14
navigation camera? If you look in 3D you can see that it is mostly hollow with a top and a bottom hollow. Also note the "rod" that is above and to the left of it. Mad Scientist |

Hey Mad.
Are you talking about the "post-hole" stone with the rectangular hole, with a few crystalized bits of wood inside? These pictures were no doubt taken on the eastern coast of Australia's outback ("Marra Mara" - not "Mars" at al). Most likely what you are seeing is simply weathering in a soft area of the rock outcrop. |
