[We're late in getting this logged here]

The Space.com report begins:

quote
The death of Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar Mitchell, the sixth man to walk
on the moon, has drawn tributes from across the space community, as his
passing was reported in the news and shared on social media.

Mitchell died Thursday (Feb. 4) — the eve of the 45th anniversary of
his and Alan Shepard's lunar landing in 1971 — at age 85 after a short
illness.

The Palm Beach Post has:

quote
Mitchell died Thursday night, some seven hours before the 45th
anniversary of that exact moment — 4:18 a.m., Feb. 5, 1971 — when he
landed Apollo 14’s lunar module, Antares, in the Fra Mauro crater.

The man with the West Texas drawl, whose ranch house west of Lantana
was cluttered with books, artwork and memorabilia of his NASA career,
belonged to a special club: he’s one of just a dozen men who have
walked on the moon.

Mitchell, 85, died at a hospice center following a brief illness.
