All you need to remember is the word ...postulate: "...They *postulated* that the iridium had been deposited following the impact on Earth of an asteroid or comet and that the catastrophic climatic effects of this massive impact caused the extinction of the dinosaurs." https://www.britannica.com/biography/Luis-Alvarez postulate: means speculate, coming from NO Evidence. Well, you could not be more incorrect. The iridiun itself is the evidence for the comet. There are very good reasons why there is very little iridium in Earth's crust and why most of that probably was brough here from comets and asteroids... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iridium "Iridium is found in meteorites in much higher abundance than in the Earth's crust.[5] For this reason, the unusually high abundance of iridium in the clay layer at the Cretaceous–Paleogene boundary gave rise to the Alvarez hypothesis that the impact of a massive extraterrestrial object caused the extinction of dinosaurs and many other species 66 million years ago. Similarly, an iridium anomaly in core samples from the Pacific Ocean suggested the Eltanin impact of about 2.5 million years ago. It is thought that the total amount of iridium in the planet Earth is much higher than that observed in crustal rocks, but as with other platinum-group metals, the high density and tendency of iridium to bond with iron caused most iridium to descend below the crust when the planet was young and still molten." to suggest or accept that a theory or idea is true as a starting point for reasoning or discussion: synonyms: conjecture, theorize, form theories, hypothesize, make suppositions, postulate, guess, make guesses, surmise,s peculate In other words, LIES! In other words, not lies, but rather good science. You are just not very good at science. |
