Nova Monitoring

It is perfectly possible to make a significant contribution to the
hobby with just a few, well targeted, observations each week. For
example in the last couple of years there were some outstandingly
interesting novae well within the range of amateur astronomers. When
you look at the results note how few other people managed to observe
the novae using filters and note how few nights observations were
missed due to bad weather!

How large is the telescope that you are using to make these
observations?

I use Rent-A-Scope all the time now, too much light pollution in
Daventry.

Martin, most of us don't have an SBIG!
Yes, you can do quite a lot with an expensive camera.

To explain myself a little further, it's been my experience when folks
use the phrase "Within the range of amateur instruments or equipment"
if not defined, usually (like Murphy's Law) means it's not something
that you own or it's beyond your means.

Visual observations with binoculars would have been useful so expense
need not be too big a problem.
