M43 - Overshadowed by its more famous neighbour!
M43 - Overshadowed by its more famous neighbour!
Messier 43 (NGC 1982) is an emission nebula surrounding the irregular young "nebula variable" NU Orionis. The star is ionising the gas that is near it -- making a sphere of glowing hydrogen gas. If it were not for M42 being so close this would be one of the highlights of the winter sky. http://www.martin-nicholson.info/m43/m43.htm Martin Nicholson, Daventry, England. http://www.martin-nicholson.info/1/1a.htm Visit the Astronomical Hall of Shame at http://www.geocities.com/queen5658/ |

A Takahashi Mewlon is not a Ritchey Chretien. It's a Dall Kirkham. $64.00 per hour ?!?!?!? ouch Bill |

I will confer with Arnie Rosner. In the good old days when I took these images it was only $20 per hour which seems fair enough.
