Default Buying a scope

Hi Everybody,

I just purchased a new Meade ETX-90 RA, last week, from Anacortes. Got the
little guy while contemplating the purchase of a Celestron C6-RGT. I've
heard the optics aren't too bad for an achromat, but I haven't heard too
much about the mount. Is it relatively stable? I don't want to have to
take it out of the box to find it's a piece of crap, nor do I want to have
to start modifying it right away. Are there any other mounts that I should
maybe be looking at? I don't have a whole lot of money at the present time,
and it's going to take me about 3 months just to save up for the scope
itself, anyway, taking into account the fluctuating Canada/US exchange rate.

TIA

Chris

The original tripod is pretty flimsy.

The latest adds show a new tripod that *looks* better; but I've not used
one.

OTOH -- my daughter reports seeing the SPC on Mars with my ETX-90EC
(really, it is now hers and my grandson's now and I will borrow it back
if I need an airplane scope)and the old tripod last weekend, so it can't
be TOO terrible :-)

I was asking about the Celestron 6 inch refractor's mount.
I like the ETX-90, because later, I can use it as a guidescope on the
6-inch.
Looking back on my post, I can see how you could have misconstrued my
question. It was a little ambiguous.

Chris,

Now that you HAVE purchased it, why not try this:
Take it out, try it, and see how you like it.....

Chris

Just how do you plan to mount the etx to the 6" refractor.. The 6 "
refractor already comes with a 50mm finder.

The 50mm finder is useless as a guidescope. I think we can all agree on
that point. As a machinist, I can make rings to mount the ETX to the tube
of the 6".

Well, it's small enough, but for a guidescope, you
normally want a wide field, which the ETX-90 doesn't
have. It is a very nice planetary scope, though.

You may discover it's better as a grab 'n go than it is making
the 6" more cumbersome.
