Phoenix Lands on Mars this Sunday!!!
Phoenix Home http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/ph...ain/index.html News Release http://marsprogram.jpl.nasa.gov/news...20080516a.html Anyone care to stick their necks out and make predictions on what they'll find? 1) Spheres? 2) Organic material? 3) Will they find the northern lowlands used to be covered by a sea? 4) habitable? I'm saying yes on all counts. Good luck Phoenix! s |

I think about the landscape that sorrounded the Vikings and how lucky they were, with that technique. It would be worth it all to see ice and organics under the camera or in the results..........Doc |

The reason for using thrusters instead of air bags is that the bags have limitations on how much mass they can land. |

Well, to put an optimistic spin on it, the crater it makes on impact will expose enough stuff from below to get some interesting data from MRO rick jones -- denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance, rebirth... where do you want to be today? these opinions are mine, all mine; HP might not want them anyway... feel free to post, OR email to rick.jones2 in hp.com but NOT BOTH... |

Brian Science via impacting is actually fairly good, especially if captured on camera at the exact time of impact and shortly thereafter. .. - Brad Guth |

Lets hope that the planetary defence system is down for repair
