Why The Full Moon is Better in Winter

Why The Full Moon is Better in Winter http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3gacnHb9TI Ah,the 'bad astronomer' and the usual 'tilted explanations - "The Earth orbits the Sun in one year (by definition!). The seasons are caused by the tilt of the Earth to the plane of its orbit. The Earth is tilted about 23 degrees, so that sometimes the North pole is tipped toward the Sun, and other times the South pole is pointed more toward the Sun. From here on the Earth, this means the Sun moves north and south about 46 degrees over the course of the year. In the summer, the Sun is very high in the sky, but in the winter it never gets as high; the difference is that very same 46 degrees (about 1/4 of the way around the visible part of the sky!)." Phil Plait http://www.badastronomy.com/bad/misc/badseasons.html I am sure this would surprise the astronomer at the Equator who will not see a 46 Degree movement North or South although they will see variations in where the Sun appears on the horizon so let you all try to explain everything from the point of view at the Equator and see how far it gets you. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...precession.svg http://www.msss.com/mars_images/moc/...mericas250.jpg Using the circle of illumination and the ecliptic axis for the first time it becomes possible to describe the surface rotation of the polar coordinates, and indeed all other locations on Earth like they should - http://ww4.hdnux.com/photos/12/17/01...10/628x471.jpg Of course you are the people who think the moon spins in order to keep the same face to us but a spinning object continues to spin aside from its orbital motion ,this fact is ,of course, lost on you and your colleagues. If there is evidence that astronomy was totally in ruins then a 'spinning moon' is it. |

Who seems to have attended So Cal University so I assume is (like 88-90% of the world's population) used to the sun/moon moving left-right across the sky. |

They is Henry and not everybody lives in the same hemisphere. The explanation is contrived and conjured out of thin air as it assigns cause to a 'tilting' Earth rather than the orbital position and motion of the moon. While not the be all and end all,Galileo's commentary is much closer to the truth - http://archive.org/stream/siderealme...ge/20/mode/2up It is also now possible to check out his assertion as to what the Earth would look like from a distance in terms of the luminosity variations between landmasses and the ocean - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXCnxoixb-s |
